What evidence do I need for RPL?

In RPL, evidence is anything that shows what you can do at work. The assessor uses it to compare your skills with the units in the qualification. The clearer your evidence, the easier it is to assess.

Common types of evidence

You do not need everything on this list. Most people have some of it already:

  • Resume or CV that shows where you worked, for how long and what you did
  • Reference letters from employers or supervisors that describe your duties
  • Photos and videos of your work — jobs you have done, before and after
  • Payslips or employment contracts that show when and where you worked
  • Licences, tickets and white cards
  • Previous certificates and transcripts, even from other countries
  • Invoices, if you run your own business

Tips for good evidence

Show the work, not just the job title

A reference that says "worked as a mechanic" is helpful. A reference that lists the tasks you did — for example servicing engines, diagnosing faults and repairing electrical systems — is much stronger.

Keep it recent where you can

Recent work is easier to link to today's qualification requirements. Older experience still counts; your consultant will help you present it.

Label your photos

Add a short note to each photo or video: what the job was, when you did it and what your part was.

Not sure what you have?

That is normal. Start with the free skills check and your consultant will help you work out what you already have and what is missing.
